Ingredients Needed

The smell of coconut, super soft skin, plus a little vitamin E equals a stay-cation like no other! These four ingredients mix up faster than you can say “I’d love a spa day at sea, please!”. Scroll down to the recipe card for exact amounts.

  • Coconut Oil: I always use unrefined, cold-pressed coconut oil. You do not want to use a liquid form of coconut oil.
  • Vitamin E Oil: Vitamin E oil is an optional addition with many benefits for your skin, you can also use something like almond oil instead!
  • Types of Sugars: I like to use a combination of regular, white, granulated sugar and coarse turbinado sugar to provide the perfect skin-smoothing balance.

How to Make Sugar Scrub

Coconut oil and therapeutic vitamin E oil provide the over-the-top moisturizers in this coconut sugar scrub. All you have to do to whip up this homemade body scrub is combine your ingreidents together and store it in a jar! Scroll to the recipe card at bottom of the post for full detailed instructions.

  • Combine: Mix both sugars together in a large bowl. Stir the oils and combine until the mixture looks and feels like beach sand. I usually use my hands for this!
  • Add to Jar: Place mixture in an airtight jar, a mason jar works great, until ready to use.
  • How to Use: Stir to redistribute the oils just before using your homemade sugar scrub. Apply to hands, feet, or just about anywhere in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water and enjoy silky smooth skin any time!

Tips & Variations

  • Scent-sational: Add a few drops of essential oils to infuse another layer of aromatic enjoyment. Try you favorite herb, citrus or floral scents such as mint, lavender, lemon, lime, orange, jasmine, plumeria, or cherry blossom to name a few! I personally love this coconut vanilla essential oil added to my homemade body scrub.
  • Melt: Microwave the coconut oil, which is solid at room temperature, until just liquified, but not hot, for easier mixing. Start with 10 to 15 seconds, and then add to the sugar mixture with vitamin E oil as directed.
  • Face or Lip Scrub: For delicate skin like your face or lips, I recommend using only granulated sugar for a finer, less harsh, sugar scrub.

How to Store DIY Sugar Scrub

Keep this homemade sugar scrub recipe in a tightly sealed jar, stored at room temperature, for a year or more. If mixture seems dry, add a tablespoon or two of melted coconut oil and then stir it up to revive your scrub!
