KFC Tests New KFC Tenders and New Comeback Sauce

Kentucky Fried Chicken continues to test new Original Recipe Tenders but is trying a different name for them: “KFC Tenders.” The test sees the tenders paired with a new “signature” Comeback Sauce. The test can be found at participating locations in the West Palm Beach area of Florida as well as parts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

The new Comeback Sauce is described as a “zesty, peppery sensation.” Comeback sauce is thought to originate from central Mississippi and is typically a savory, tangy, and spicy sauce. It’s enjoyed more popularity with the spread of regional fried chicken chains. If you’re curious about the name, according to the Jackson (MS) Convention & Visitors Bureau, one theory has it that the sauce is thought to have a “potent scent [that ‘comes back’] to linger after the main course is finished.”

It should be noted that KFC already introduced a new “signature” KFC Sauce for its Extra-Crispy Tenders in 2020. At the test locations, the new Comeback Sauce replaces KFC Sauce. At least some test locations appear to be offering the new sauce with Extra Crispy Tenders rather than Original Recipe Tenders.

The new KFC Tenders feature white-meat chicken tenders that are double hand-breaded with KFC’s Original Recipe herbs and spices and then deep-fried until crispy. KFC has been testing them in several markets on a limited-time basis since last year.
