Los (co-owner of Masa Craft) was a long-time employee of MIA Bruhaus, where I met him before he and his wife Nayra temporarily took over the kitchen. Speaking of MIA Bruhaus, Los and Nayra were married there.

When they were at MIA Bruhaus, Marcela and I usually hit Masa Craft for their nachos, burgers, and croquetas. We’re also known to dabble in the wings, tacos, and a soft pretzel from time to time.

Since leaving MIA Bruhaus, they’ve been working hard at the pop-up game all over South Florida.

How did they get involved in the turbulent croqueta world and win at Croqueta Palooza? Nayra’s (Filipino and Spanish descent) family owns the Spanish restaurant Los Gallegos on Bird Road. She brings authenticity to their fried spheres.

You know I’m always about a damn fine ham croqueta, but damn it, that mushroom veggie croqueta is just so freakin’ good. And don’t sleep on the mind-blowingly good pizza croqueta.

Burgers, Cheesesteaks, and Dessert

Los comes with a strong hand in the fresh beef burger game. My Boy Blue features candied bacon, caramelized onions, blue cheese crumbles, and roasted garlic aioli. My Boy Blue might sound very intense, but that’s cause it is. He’s also freakin’ delicious.

The burger to get is the McLos, a double-deck hamburger. It comes with shredded lettuce, and I happily ate it.

I’m not sure what exactly came over me since I’m so anti-lettuce. American cheese, onions, special sauce, and pickles rounded out the rest of the sandwich.

Another killer dish that Masa Craft makes is their cheesesteak. The sando is filled with chopped steak, onions, peppers, and cheese.

Masa Craft is taking a deeper dive into Nayra’s Filipino roots, which is how an Ube (Filipino purple yam) Tres Leches came to exist.
