The Trader Joe’s Tomato Burrata Ravioloni is one of my new favorite Trader Joe Ravioli flavors.

What Sauce goes with Trader Joe’s Tomato Burrata Ravioloni?

I think this delicious ravioli pairs best with my quick and easy spicy vodka sauce along with some fresh burrata to mimic the flavors stuffed inside each ravioli.

This easy recipe is crafted for those evenings when time is of the essence as this dish comes together in a mere blink of an eye—under 30 minutes.

Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Salted Butter – If you’re using unsalted butter – that’s fine! Just be sure to add an extra pinch of salt along with it.
  • Olive Oil – Any neutral oil will work but I think olive oil has the best taste.
  • Garlic – Fresh garlic is ideal but you could also use finely diced shallots.
  • Tomato Paste – There is no substitution for tomato paste in this recipe.
  • Calabrian Chili – If you don’t like it spicy, that’s totally ok! Just leave it out and it’ll still be delicious. If you want it spicy but don’t have the chilis, try using ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes.
  • Vodka – If you need an alternative to vodka, you could add a splash of white wine or broth.
  • Heavy Cream – There is no real substitute for heavy cream in this recipe. If you want it vegan, you could try to use an unsweetened almond or coconut milk but I have not tried it.
  • Sugar – Regular, white table sugar works best.
  • Salt – Kosher salt is what I recommend.
  • Parmesan – You could swap parm for pretty much any aged Italian hard cheese like pecorino, grana padano, etc.
  • Trader Joe’s Tomato & Burrata Raviolioni – If you want to use another flavor ravioli, it will still be delicious!
  • Burrata – If you don’t like burrata you can leave it off. If you want a substitution for burrata, try fresh mozzarella or even dabs of ricotta.

How to make it

Start the Pasta Water: Get a pot of salted water boiling.

Make the Spicy Vodka Sauce: Meanwhile, melt butter and olive oil in a large sauce pan over medium heat then add garlic. Cook down for a few minutes, stirring often, until the garlic is soft and fragrant but not browned.

Next, add tomato paste and Calabrian chili paste to the pan and continue stirring until everything is incorporated and the tomato paste has darkened slightly; about 4-5 minutes.

Now add the vodka and stir vigorously for another 2-3 minutes until the pan has been completely deglazed and the sauce has come together.

Turn the heat to medium-low and add heavy cream and stir until incorporated. Let it simmer on low for 3 minutes then add 1 HEFTY pinch of white sugar and a hefty pinch of salt followed by ½ cup of parmesan cheese and continue stirring until it’s melted. Turn the heat to low and simmer.

Cook the Ravioli: At this point, the ravioli water should be boiling. Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook for 2 minutes or until it starts to float and puff up just slightly.

Add Ravioli to Sauce: Now add the ravioli to the sauce. Then add ½ a cup of pasta water and stir it in until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy! If it still looks dry, add more of the reserved pasta water, little by little, over medium-low heat until the sauce looks silky and smooth.

Frequently asked questions

How do you cook Trader Joe’s ravioli from frozen?

First, get a large pot full of water and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Once boiling, add the frozen ravioli and turn the heat down to medium-high. Let it boil gently to avoid the ravioli tearing, and cook for 3 minutes or so until they’re warmed through, floating, and slightly puffed up.

Can you pan fry Trader Joe’s ravioli?

Absolutely! Pan-frying Trader Joe’s ravioli is like giving them a golden ticket to the ball—simply toss them in a hot pan with a kiss of olive oil, letting them sizzle and flirt with the heat until they’re crisply bronzed and irresistibly inviting, a true feast for the senses.

What to do if I can’t find burrata?

If you can’t find Burrata, simply grab a ball of fresh mozzarella and a bit of heavy cream. Tear the mozzarella up with your hands and place it in a bowl then cover it with heavy cream. Add a pinch of salt and stir and cover for 15 minutes. After that, it’ll taste just like the inside of a ball of burrata.
